The Alabama Writers Cooperative was organized in 1923, and is today one of the oldest continuing writers’ organizations in the United States. AWC supports writers, aspiring writers, publishers, and members of the literary community through networking, sharing information, workshops and conferences. Members include fiction and non-fiction writers, novelists, short-story writers, poets, journalists, business and technical writers, publishers and educators. AWC also nominates, for the Alabama Governor’s appointment, Alabama’s Poet Laureate.
